In the case of a young child it might simply because they have lost their way home.
It might be because the person wishes to get away and start afresh due to family or relationship problems. But it can also be because of confusion due to an accident or illness, or to dementia.
But it can also be because of more sinister reasons, Bullying, Abduction, Assault or even Murder.
Many return or are found, but many are not.
