WILD CAMPING

Going Back To The Wild

Whats the difference from Stealth Camping and Wild Camping?

The lines are wavy and the two types of camping can often overlap. Stealth camping is normally done in more public areas, sometimes in a tent, but usually in a motorhome or van which has a few more 'Home Comforts'. Wild Camping is going back to basics, and away from public places and campsites, and more of a survival exercise utilising what is already around you.

Wild Camping varies depending on where  in the world you live. The US has far more empty spaces to get far away from things, yet comes with its own hazards, distance from help if needed, and communication to summon it, not to mention the dangers from everything from the size of a bug to a crocodile. In the UK there are no dangerous animals to contend with, apart from one snake that is poisonous but rarely deadly, or an angry Badger or cornered Fox that might give you a bite, and you are never more than a few hours away from help.

There are also many differences between the US and UK in the form of Laws, that of trespass, restrictions for hunting, the carrying of Knives, Guns and other items that could be considered a weapon. ou should ensure you have a good understanding of these laws before setting off with your backpack.

In this section I try to point out the hazards of solo wild camping, and highlight some of the tools and equipment, tips and tricks that will enhance any adventure off the beaten track.
