There are some really great simulators around at the moment, each pushing the boundaries and making them almost as realistic as a multi-million pound professional simulator. Now what was once only available to the professionals, is available to anyone with a computer.
Many are now available to play in VR
There are now simulators for many things, Flight simulators, Driving simulators, simulators that are related to Occupations, and learning/training style simulators that teach Crafts, DIY, Electrics, computer assembly etc. There are also many 'Games' that incorporate simulation.
The links below will take you to specific pages, or carry on reading for a more generalised description of the various software currently available.

Of course we all want the newest, greatest, fastest, shiniest, most feature packed.
But we may not be able to afford games that can run into hundreds of pounds.
Over twenty years ago a racing game appeared on the market called 'Live for Speed'. The game is still running to this day, frequently updated and with plenty of 'Mods' available it can be a great place to start on your Simulation racing career.
AND ITS COMPLETELY FREE!

Not everyone wants to drive a monster sized truck, coach, or sit in a Formula one race car, so there are other simulators covering many different genres.
You can explore worlds as a Cowboy or Hunter, you can take the role of a Police Officer, or just explore open worlds as a civilian.
For ultra realism, stunning views, the ability to explore the wild west as either a Gunslinger, a Hunter, or relaxing just collecting plants to cook or to create medicines, you just can't beat 'Red Dead Redemption 2'. Call your horse and set off exploring the towns, mountains, swamps, frozen wilderness, and rivers of the old wild west.
If you prefer a slower more relaxing game and prefer to play the Hunter rather than a Gunslinging Cowboy, then Call of the Wild is the game for you. You can explore the wild, learn how to track animals then follow them across the map until you get them in your sights. Chase the Moose, but watch out for the wild boar and the bears.
Patrol the streets on foot or by car, ticket and tow vehicles parked in the wrong place, detain people drinking in public, arrest drug dealers and wallet thieves, give directions, attend Road Traffic Collisions, administer First-aid, interview drivers, check licences and insurances, breath test, test for drugs, Photograph damage and clear the scene.
